Worship

Christ's parish at Our Saviour strives to be catholic and evangelical in worship as well as in doctrine and vision. Towards this end, a variety of forms of worship are scheduled.

The 8:00 Sunday Eucharist is Rite I and the 10:30 Eucharist is Rite II. Solemn Masses are celebrated six times a year to enhance the church's most important Feasts with special festivity. These are at the principal Eucharists of Easter, Pentecost, The Feast of St. Mary the Virgin, the Sunday nearest Holy Cross Day (our paternal feast), the Sunday after All Saints' Day, and Christmas Eve. Daily morning or evening prayer and weekday Eucharists are also scheduled.

Music

Our Saviour is a parish that sings! We believe with St. Augustine that "he who sings prays twice." Music at Our Saviour is an offering of prayer and praise by all the people.

Hymns, service music, and choirs are all important parts of our prayer at our Eucharists on Sundays. The Chapel Choir leads our praise at Sunday Eucharists. A handbell Choir, and various instrumentalists and vocalists contribute to our worship from time to time.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. At Our Saviour, we seek for prayer and the singing of God's praise, rather than performance, to be the foundation of all our music. Any parishioner with a gift of music is therefore encouraged to consider contributing to our worship through participation in any of these groups. If you would like to do so, speak to our organist and choir director, Bonnie Linder, or to Father Casey.

Acolytes

Young people of sufficient age -- usually age 9 or 10 or older -- and interested adults serve as acolytes at Our Saviour. They serve as crucifier and torchbearers and assist the celebrant during the Eucharist. Serving at God's altar in this way is an important liturgical ministry, and training for the entire group is ordinarily held in the fall of each year. Persons who feel that they are called to this ministry may, however, be trained at any time. If you would like to consider being an acolyte, speak to Father Casey.

Readers, Chalice Ministers, and Intercessors

Our Saviour is blessed with a number of men and women who serve in these important liturgical ministries at each Eucharist. These are visible ministries that require dedication, commitment, and a gift for reading the Word of God in public or for administering the Blood of Christ with reverence. The specific goals of these ministries are to read God's Word with conviction, confidence, and understanding and to help lead the congregation in worshipful prayer, and to help distribute the elements. Persons who believe they are called to one or more to these ministries are encouraged to speak to Father Casey.

Nursery

A nursery is provided each Sunday morning from 7:45 until after the fellowship hour following the 10:30 Eucharist is over. A nursery is also provided for most special events. The nursery is located at the west end of the parish hall on the second floor. The nursery is staffed by a nursery supervisor and parishioners as a ministry to the parish. Persons who would like to help with this ministry should speak to Father Casey.

Lay Eucharistic Ministry

Several persons at Our Saviour have been trained by the diocese and licensed by the Bishop as Lay Eucharistic Ministers. Immediately following the Sunday Eucharists, these ministers are commissioned to take the sacrament to those who were unable to join with the Body of Christ for the Eucharist in person because of illness or other disability. Anyone who is prevented from joining with the parish for Eucharist on a given Sunday because of illness or infirmity or other good cause is encouraged to let us know so that we may bring the Sacrament to you. You may do so by calling the parish office (633-2667) or by speaking to either Father Casey or one of the Lay Eucharistic Ministers.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is composed of men and women who are committed to the loving preparation of God's church building and altar for worship. All of us are in debt to the service of these persons who help to prepare Prayer Books and hymnals and to clean and prepare the altar and sacred vessels and vestments for the Sunday and daily Eucharists and for marriages and burials. The Altar Guild is divided into teams, with each team being responsible for the services for one week per month. If you are being called to this important and happy ministry in the church, please speak with either the Altar Guild chairman or Father Casey.
