Other Ministries The Episcopal Churchwomen (ECW) meets throughout the year for worship, study, fellowship, and outreach. Their volunteer work, both at Thrift House and in the Chapel Shop, raises considerable funds each year that are used for outreach ministries and for special needs with the parish. The ECW also oversees providing volunteers for the Thrift House staff. The Thrift House is cooperative ministry with other Episcopal parishes and provides a low cost clothing and household goods outlet for the needy. Time spent by volunteers is credited to Our Saviour providing funding for ECW outreach programs. Bibles, books for adults and children, cards, jewelry, and other items are part of the inventory of the Chapel Shop, which provides gifts for family and friends for important times in life, both personal and religious. The Shop is open following each Sunday Eucharist, and the parish secretary is happy to assist you on weekdays. Several years ago the Chapel of our Saviour granted a portion of its property to The Chapel Columbarium Association. The purpose was to provide a site for the burial of persons who have chosen cremation as a form of burial. Members of any Episcopal church in El Paso County are eligible to join the Columbarium Association, which grants them the privilege of burial in the Columbarium grounds. The membership fee provides for perpetual care. Call the Columbarium Office (633-2667) for current individual and family fees and for further information. The Chapel WindowThe Chapel Window, the monthly newsletter of the parish, provides information concerning the services and activities of the parish. In addition to sharing information about coming events, The Chapel Window encourages parishioners to submit their own creative contributions of a religious or spiritual nature to share with the parish. Information and articles to be submitted for the next month's issue are due in the parish office or to the editor by the 15th of the present month. Stephen Ministers are lay people who provide ongoing Christian care on a one-to-one basis to people experiencing a wide range of life needs or crises, including: the hospitalized, the elderly, those in job crisis, those whose families are affected by chemical dependencies, the lonely or depressed, those who experience unplanned pregnancies, the shut-in, new members in the parish community, those in spiritual crises, terminally ill, and many more. Stephen Ministers undergo 50 hours of training in topics and skills related to caring ministry and are commissioned by the congregation and linked with persons in need. Stephen Ministers apply caring skills to other important relationships and discover that their whole lives are enriched. Stephen Ministers receive regular support and supervision for their ministries. At the present time, training classes are offered once a year. Young-ish Adults, people in their 20's and 30's, meet twice a month at a parishioner's home to have fellowship and quite often a book study or Bible study. We welcome singles, couples, folks with children, friends of friends; anyone who has questions about our common journey with God and would like to explore that journey with others. We recognize that fun is as important to our spiritual life as it is to our physical life, and we meet occasionally for just that purpose! |
