Education

Christian education is available for all ages on Sunday mornings at 9:15 (children) and 9:30 (adults). We are committed to the belief that growth in Christian knowledge and life is never complete and ought never to end. Gifted lay people and the clergy teach adult classes.

Committed members of the parish teach Sunday classes for children and young people. Currently we are using Living the Good News and The Episcopal Children's Curriculum.

Other educational opportunities include Bible classes on Wednesday mornings, a Catechumenate (preparation for confirmation for adults and young people or for anyone interested in exploring the christian faith and tradition) which meets from September through May, and periodic evening classes and weekend conferences for the entire family held at the parish on various topics throughout the year. Vacation Bible School, for children, is held in July of each year.

We believe, as people have for centuries, that if you would learn, you should commit yourself to teach. Certainly this is true in the home, where adults learn as they teach their own children. It is equally true in the Church, where people grow who commit themselves to prepare to share the story of God in the world with others. If you are one who would do both -- learn and share -- speak to Father Casey or other members of the staff about how you might use your gifts for teaching in the parish.

Children's Chapel

A Liturgy of the Word for young children, pre-school through primary grades, is held each Sunday morning at 10:30 in the Children's Chapel in the parish hall. Our intent is to offer an age-appropriate service of the Word for children, designed to help them become familiar with the kinds of prayer that take place in the church itself. The children come to the church to join their families at the Peace and remain with them for the Eucharist.

Youth

Young people at Our Saviour are encouraged to be active in the Church by attending Church School and the Eucharist on Sundays, by serving as acolytes and readers, and by participating in our Youth Group.

The EYC groups divide their time among study, fellowship, and service projects. Through their service ministries -- which require commitments of work and time and heart--the young people have contributed substantially to several parish outreach efforts, and they have found that personal relationships and friendships are strengthened at the same time.

Book Discussion

A group meets informally on the third Monday evening of every other month (January, March, May, July, September, and November) in Father Casey's study or the dining room for a book discussion. The group makes its own selections according to the interests of the group. Although many of the books are theological or religious in nature, others are of more general interest--history, science, philosophy, and literature--are also selected. All interested persons are invited to take part.

Library

The parish library is in the parish hall in the area at the foot of the stairway near the dining room and kitchen. Books are available on virtually every topic in Christian history and theology. You are welcome to check out books on you own, returning them whenever you are finished. There is also a children's library located on the second floor of the parish hall at the top of the main staircase.
